Going to the Source: Opportunities to Co-create Institutional and Individual Character (IP)

  • Vassar College Poughkeepsie, NY United States (map)

Dr. Anton Treuer, acclaimed author, educator, and advocate for cultural revitalization, invites participants into a powerful exploration of how institutions like Vassar can center justice, truth, and ethical learning in an age of rapid change. Drawing on Indigenous knowledge systems and historical context, Treuer examines the intertwined futures of racial equity, moral development, and higher education’s democratic purpose.

Through stories, scholarship, and dialogue, he challenges us to ask how knowledge has been created and shared—and whose voices have been amplified or silenced—across time. As new technologies reshape how we access and understand information, Treuer calls for a return to the sources of wisdom that ground human connection, integrity, and justice. This presentation encourages educators and students alike to reimagine the liberal arts as a living, inclusive practice that equips us to meet our ethical responsibilities in a transforming world.
