Ojibwe Language Revitalization

I believe in the power of giving. I have devoted my life to the service of Native people and the revitalization of the Ojibwe language and culture. When Ojibwe people learn and live their language and culture it heals and transforms them in positive ways. When non-Ojibwe people learn about our unique worldview, they grow and heal too. My books populate the resources at colleges, universities, and K-12 programs that teach the Ojibwe language. But there is so much more that needs to be done. I would be honored to receive your support for my life’s work developing Ojibwe language resources. The future vitality of Ojibwe is not certain, but with your help it is certainly possible. Margaret Treuer

Margaret Treuer

Minnesota American Indian Bar Association

In honor of my mother, Margaret “Peggy” Treuer, I support the Minnesota American Indian Bar Association. Peggy was the first female Native American attorney in the State of Minnesota. She believed in justice and devoted her life to the betterment of Native people in our justice system. She left a bequest in her will to this organization to support scholarships for Native Americans going to law school. I donate to MAIBA every year and invite you to join me.

Minnesota Land Trust

In honor of my father, Robert “Bob” Treuer, I support the Minnesota Land Trust. Bob was a Holocaust survivor, who fled Nazi-occupied Austria at the age of thirteen, eventually finding his way to Minnesota to start a new life. He bought a farm east of Bemidji, Minnesota, and in 1958, started planting trees. His tree farm changed the entire landscape and ecosystem. He created conservation easements on much of the property with the Minnesota Land Trust, preserving his effort in perpetuity. He left a bequest in his will to support the efforts of the Minnesota Land Trust to support the preservation of Minnesota’s natural splendor and wildlife habitat. I donate to the MN Land Trust every year and invite you to join me.

Keller Paap and Waadookodaading Students

Waadookodaading Ojibwe Language Institute

Waadookodaading is Ojibwe country’s flagship Ojibwe medium school. For over twenty years they have been doing something that had not happened since World War II in the community of Lac Courte Oreilles—producing fluent speakers of the Ojibwe language. The Ojibwe language and culture work there is truly inspiring as is the academic success of their students.
