Understanding Ojibwe Treaties: History, Sovereignty, and Our Responsibilities Today (In-person)

  • Red Cliff, WI United States (map)

Ojibwe treaties are living agreements that continue to shape Tribal sovereignty, cultural continuity, and the stewardship of lands and resources throughout the Great Lakes region. In this staff-only professional development session for the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC), Dr. Anton Treuer, historian, and educator, will explore the historical context and enduring significance of Ojibwe treaties, including their meaning from Ojibwe perspectives. Participants will deepen their understanding of treaty rights, Tribal sovereignty, and the relationships and responsibilities that connect treaty history to GLIFWC’s work today.
