Leadership is not simply a position or title; it is a way of showing up in relationship with others. In this interactive session, Dr. Anton Treuer draws on Indigenous understandings of leadership, community, and responsibility to explore what it means to lead with integrity in diverse and sometimes divided spaces. Students will consider how identity and lived experience shape the ways we communicate, build trust, navigate conflict, and exercise influence.

Designed as a smaller conversation with student leaders, faculty, and students, the session moves from ideas to practice. Through storytelling, reflection, and dialogue, Treuer explores how effective leaders listen across difference, create belonging without demanding sameness, respond constructively to conflict, and remain grounded in purpose when difficult issues arise. Participants will leave with practical ways to strengthen relationships, exercise courageous and culturally responsive leadership, and contribute to healthier communities at Vassar and beyond.
