Ojibwe language revitalization depends on preparing the next generation of fluent, culturally grounded educators. In this session, Dr. Anton Treuer and Dustin Burnette, Executive Director of the Midwest Indigenous Immersion Network, will introduce Bemidji State University’s new Ojibwe Teacher Training Program—an innovative initiative designed to train and certify Ojibwe language teachers to serve immersion schools, tribal programs, and community efforts across Ojibwe country.

Presenters will outline the program’s vision, structure, partnerships, and certification pathway, as well as the urgent need it addresses. Attendees will learn how the program is building a sustainable pipeline of highly qualified Ojibwe language educators and how tribal nations, schools, and organizations can collaborate to support and benefit from this work.

This session is ideal for educators, administrators, tribal leaders, language advocates, and anyone committed to strengthening Ojibwe language revitalization through teacher preparation and systemic support.
