What can we learn from the people and cultures that have shaped this land for thousands of years? Dr. Anton Treuer will visit students throughout the Cumberland School District for an engaging, age-appropriate conversation about the beauty, diversity, and enduring strength of Indigenous nations and their contributions to the world.

Across elementary, middle, and high school audiences, Treuer will use storytelling, personal experiences, history, and humor to introduce students to Indigenous perspectives and invite them to see Native cultures as living, vibrant, and continually evolving. He will share stories that connect the past to the present, explore the importance of language and cultural knowledge, and highlight the many ways Indigenous peoples have contributed to the arts, sports, science, environmental stewardship, and the world around us.

Most importantly, this visit will be a conversation. Students will have opportunities to ask questions, share their curiosity, and engage directly with Treuer. The experience is designed to encourage learning, respect, and connection while helping students recognize that understanding different cultures can expand how we see ourselves, our communities, and the world.
